Acupuncture Is Breaking The Boundaries In Family Health

Dealing with physical pain is a part of human life, from birth to death. Generally, most individuals do everything in their power to avoid aches, pains, and any discomfort. In today’s modern world, medicine and chiropractic fields have provided individuals with many forms of pain relief, be it in the form of prescription medication or invasive surgery. Pain is something no one can avoid, though, and it is only with how we cope with malaise that becomes important.

That does sound incredibly morbid, but it is a fact of life. The body ages and, as it does; it begins to lose its vitality. Health, the environment, and genetics play a huge factor in how quickly the body deteriorates. Take for example a smoker and a non-smoker. Which do you think would be the one more at risk for wrinkles, lung cancer, or emphysema? A quick hint: Surprisingly, it is not the person out in the parking lot with a lit cigarette!

More and more people are realizing that they want to live longer, healthier lives free from chronic pain, feeling down and depressed, or having a general sense of malaise. Also, as much as an individual wants to be pain-free and happy, they wish for their children to be more so. acupuncture has been a rising trend in the medical and alternative health field for many years now.

The media has given us a false image of acupuncture. Movies have portrayed acupuncturists as being small, Chinese men practicing the technique in a dim, incense-filled room. However, the truth is that acupuncture is practiced in modern offices very similar to that of doctors and the acupuncturists themselves come from all different nationalities.

Adults and teenagers are the general clientele, and the results of their acupuncture sessions have proven long-lasting results and relief from health complaints. Researchers have followed these results and studies continue to show that acupuncture is a positive technique.

There are some cases in which acupuncture should be avoided. Children and infants should not have acupuncture performed on them, and those adults who have a fear of needles will also want to avoid the technique.

Acupuncture isn’t an immediate miracle cure and patients need to undergo repeat treatments to show great improvement to their health. However, if you have the patience and the willingness to try a few session of acupuncture, you may find that the results are well worth the effort.

Acupuncture For Migraines – Effective Or Not?

Migraine. Just the thought of it causes dread for millions of sufferers. Many have learned to expect and live with migraine pain, but they would rather not think of the next episode.

Acupuncture for Migraines – What Is Involved?

Acupuncture is a type of alternative or complementary medicine, derived from traditional Chinese medicine. This treatment for pain involves insertion of fine needles into particular points in the body known as “acupuncture points”. The needles are then gently manipulated.

Acupuncture for Migraine Prevention – Between Attacks

If you decide to try acupuncture for migraines between your migraine attacks, and have an acupuncturist who distinguishes between prevention and treatment, you may receive SES acupuncture for migraines.

You will receive your SES treatment in a sitting position. Fine acupuncture needles will be inserted very shallowly into your skin. The acupuncture points chosen for SES will usually be on your forearms and lower legs. The needles will then be gently manipulated, pushed back and forth, by hand while you exhale.

Acupuncture for Migraine Treatment – During Attacks

If you decide to try acupuncture for migraines during a migraine attack, and receive a typical treatment, fine needles will be inserted into acupuncture points all over your body. The needles will then be gently pushed back and forth. As it is moved, each needle will cause small blood vessels around itself to dilate. This will increase the blood flow throughout your body’s tissues.

Your acupuncturist may take a different approach, however. Since your migraine pain is generally believed to be linked to blood vessel dilation in your head, he or she may not want to insert needles in the head and neck area. To do so might make your pain worse temporarily. Instead, your acupuncturist may use only the acupuncture points on your arms and legs.

Great Britain Research on Acupuncture for Migraines

* On 15 March 2004, four British newspapers reported on a study that found acupuncture helpful to people with migraines.

* The four papers based their stories on a randomized, controlled trial. That trial studied the effects of using acupuncture for migraines along with more common types of care. The trial was conducted in twelve (12) different areas of England and Wales. It involved 401 patients in all. It reported results for 301 of those patients.

* Patients treated with acupuncture for migraines had less severe headaches than those who received more common treatments. The patients treated with acupuncture for migraines also had fewer days off work, took less medication, and visited the doctor less often than did patients given only standard care.

United States Research on Acupuncture for Migraines

Two publications in the United States have published studies that have lead to strong, positive conclusions on the effectiveness of acupuncture for migraine relief.

1. Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA)

Under the title, “Acupuncture for Patients with Migraine,” JAMA published a study involving 302 patients. Most of the patients were female. Patients were grouped into those who received acupuncture for migraines, those who received sham acupuncture for migraines, and a wait-list control.

The researchers concluded that sham acupuncture was no less effective than regular acupuncture. Both acupuncture for migraines and sham acupuncture, however, had much greater positive effect on migraines than did the wait-list control.

2. Blackwell Synergy

In this study, 160 women were studied to determine if acupuncture for migraines was effective or not. This study pitted acupuncture for migraines against the use of Flunarizine for migraines.

* Group A received acupuncture for their migraines every week for two months. After that, they received acupuncture once monthly for four months.

* Group B was given Flunarizine every day for two months. After that, they received the medication twenty days out of the month for four months. The study’s conclusion was profound. Acupuncture for migraines won as the more effective treatment of the two.

Acupuncture for Migraines – Does It Hurt?

You may be among those migraine sufferers who see acupuncture for migraines as a choice between the pain of the headache and the pain of needles. You may be among those who have an intense fear of needles. How can you get past the fear?

1. FIRST: Seek out a well-qualified, professional acupuncturist. Get recommendations, if possible. Your Oxnard Chiropractor will be happy to help. Be sure the acupuncturist is licensed and certified according to the law in your area.

2. SECOND: Visit the acupuncturist before making an appointment. Ask to see needle-sterilizing procedures. Ask if they use disposable needles.

3. THIRD: If you still fear the needles, ask if there is an alternative. Some offer magnetic needles, ear cups, and/or herbal methods.

4. FOURTH: Make an appointment.

When you go for your appointment, be sure you explain exactly the problem you are having, its frequency, and intensity. Provide as much medical information as possible. This will help the acupuncturist provide the acupuncture for migraines treatment that is best for you.

NOTE: It is wise to keep your primary health care provider aware that you are using acupuncture for migraines in addition to or in place of any treatment he or she may advise.

Acupuncture For Migraines – Studies Show It Does Work

Many people are familiar with the physical act of acupuncture, the act of inserting needles into the skin for the purpose of relaxation and natural healing. Acupuncture goes much further than needles in the skin. The Chinese used acupuncture to re-align one’s Chi, which is an energy of universal life that is believed to flow through all people. When the Chi is blocked and unable to flow freely, health is affected. Now, researchers are investigating the role of acupuncture for migraine reduction and treatment. Read below for more on how acupuncture for migraine reduction works.

The Studies

Two publications have published studies with strong conclusions on the effectiveness of acupuncture for migraine relief. The Journal of the American Medical Association, or JAMA, published “Acupuncture for Patients with Migraine.” In this study, scientists used 302 patients, most of them women who suffered from migraine headaches. Patients were administered acupuncture, sham acupuncture and a waiting list control. Researchers concluded that sham acupuncture was no less effective than regular acupuncture, though both had much more of an effect on migraines than did the wait list control.

Another study, published by Blackwell Synergy, one hundred sixty women were run through a controlled study examining the effects of acupuncture for migraines versus flunarizine for migraines. Group A was administered acupuncture weekly for 2 months and then once monthly for 4 months. Flunarizine was given to the patients every day for two months and then twenty days out of the month for four months. The conclusion was profound: acupuncture won the contest for the most effective treatment out of the two.

Getting Past The Fear

The first thing to look for when seeking out a professional acupuncturist is to make sure that the acupuncturist is licensed and certified, depending on the state in which you live. Most acupuncturists will walk you through their sterilizing procedures, and most use disposable needles. If you cannot get past the fear of acupuncture needles, the acupuncturist will probably provide alternatives for you. These include herbal methods, magnetic needles and ear cups that can be taken for similar results.

When you go to the acupuncturist, be sure you know what you are seeking treatment for, and have as much medical information as possible. This will help the acupuncturist decide what acupuncture for migraine techniques are right for you.

Acupuncture Treatment Stands the Test of Time

Chiropractic oxnard presents a new article about and old medicine!

Acupuncture has been around for a long long time. The term derives from the Latin acus, which means needle, and pungo(punctura), which means to puncture. Acupuncture is actually an effective method of diagnosing, preventing and treatment all kinds of illnesses with the help of special metal needles which are inserted into the patient’s body. The needles are inserted in special locations which are called acupuncture points. Uninitiated people may already have a nasty nagging sensation when thinking about all this but the truth is that an acupuncture specialist will make each insertion no more painful than a mosquito bite. The origin of acupuncture dates back from antiquity, when it is said that Chinese warriors found out that getting hit by an arrow in a specific part of the body helped another part of the body recover from previous injuries. Although it has a long history, acupuncture has not had an easy ride all the way. Controversies existed along the way, but it was its fascination and effectiveness that kept it alive. Entire libraries of books have been written, books which define over 600 acupuncture points. However, in the 19th century, the acupuncture school fell victim to the western trained Chinese doctors. Only folk medicine kept it alive, although it was forbidden in hospitals all over China. However, in the 20th century, in 1949 to be more specific, Chairman Mao worked at rehabilitating traditional Chinese medicine and placing it into a modern context. At that time, there were about 70.000 practitioners of modern medicine and about 500.000 traditional doctors. Nowadays, it’s estimated that about 90% of China’s illnesses are taken care of (at least partially) with the help of acupuncture. For each particular acupuncture point, there are observations which account for thousands of years of experience. There are many dedicated Chinese doctors who devoted their lives into the study of a single acupuncture point, and who have passed on their knowledge to their students. So in the 20th century, the whole acupuncture science was researched again under Chairman Mao’s insistence. The entire system was put in a scientific and logical manner, and thus modern acupuncture was born. It combines elements of traditional Chinese medicine with the modern western approach. This has not been a fortunate combination all the way though, as there are many differences in the two approaches. As the acupuncture medicine states, human body is filled with life energy, which circulates through the body, by means of invisible pathways which all called meridians. This can be compared to the system of aircraft routes, which is invisible in the sky, but it exists nonetheless. Each meridian is associated with a vital organ, such as the heart, kidney, lungs, etc. There are also other basic differences between the two medicine schools, but one thing is clear though: acupuncture has been around for thousand of years, and it couldn’t have been without effectiveness. That’s why the acupuncture school is still an important part of oriental medicine.

Acupuncture: The Accepted Treatment For Acne!

Total causes relating to acne are unknown. The real, definite remedies to acne are also unknown. There is a big orchestra of remedies to acne however. Every musician takes out a different tune, and thinks that he is the best. Who knows who is the best, but at every short interval, a new member is added to the team of orchestra. Acupuncture is one of the important members of this acne medication orchestra.

Treating acne with acupuncture is the accepted way of life, with many acne sufferers. The dermatologists also approve of this treatment.

acupuncture has the support of the centuries. It has the support of the ancient wisdom. This wisdom was originated from China, and sustained from generation to generation.

Acupuncture, popularly known as TCM, is to treat certain parts of the body, the joints of energy. They are also called meridians. These joints are stimulated by inserting sharp needles. The system is as good as clearing those joints. The blockages in the energy flow in your body are removed. These blockages are responsible for diseases and all sorts of illness.

The evaluation of acupuncture has not been scientifically done, if you talk in terms of modern science. But if you talk in terms of the results of application of this system, the modern science has to stand and stare. You have definite reports that two types of acupuncture have dealt with the symptoms of acne successfully. One of them is auricular acupuncture (acupuncture applied to the ear) and the other one is electro acupuncture, which uses a mild electrical current.

There are many forms of acupuncture and herbal medicine acupuncture is one of them. Of them, two systems of herbal medicines are popular in China: Tai Chi and Chi Kung. This system originated in China in around 2500 BC. Western countries were not aware of it; they were not enthusiastic about this system of medicine till 1950. Now, they have begun to accept it and adopt it. It is part of the western medicine now, and has shown tremendous results.

Human body contains 59 meridians and 1000 pressure points. People suffering from all sorts of conditions and serious ailments like asthma, bronchitis and acne, including difficult acne scars can be treated with acupuncture. It is very successful in relieving pain. The treatment may not give uniform benefits in all. The results vary from individual to individual.

This original system, has spread and accepted all over the world. Also, the treatment is considered free from any side effects.

another treatment that is free from side effects is chiropractic! This is brought to you by your Oxnard Chiropractor.

Acupuncture Eases Tension Headache Pain

Hi all, I found this article and thought it was interesting enough to share the full content with you.

Hope you enjoy! Chiropractic oxnard style.

Copyright 2005 Daily News Central The ancient Chinese practice of acupuncture has proven to be an effective treatment for tension headache. It not only relieves pain, but also cuts rates of recurrence by almost half, a recent study indicates. Traditional Chinese acupuncture therapy involves insertion of needles up to 3 inches deep into the body at prescribed acupuncture points, according to licensed acupuncturist Rong Zeng of the New York Good Health Clinic in Manhattan. However, a new, randomized blind study in Germany involving 270 patients with a similar severity of tension headache has shown that a minimal course of acupuncture works almost as well as the traditional method. Fewer Headaches After Treatment Researchers divided the patients into three groups. Over an eight-week period, one group was treated with traditional acupuncture, another received minimal acupuncture (needles inserted only superficially into the skin at non-acupuncture points), and the control group had neither treatment. The subjects were monitored for four weeks after their period of treatment. Those who had received traditional acupuncture care subsequently experienced seven fewer headaches. The group that had been given minimal acupuncture therapy had surprisingly similar results — 6.6 fewer headaches. The control group did not fare as well, with only 1.5 fewer headaches. Improvements in headache rates continued for months after the acupuncture treatment, though they began to rise slightly as time went on. Results Subject to Interpretation Such a negligable difference in results between traditional and minimal acupuncture treatments possibly indicates that the location of acupuncture points and depth of needle insertion do not make a major difference for treatment of tension headache, the authors of the study suggest. However, they caution that the possibility of placebo effects should not be overlooked. “Placebo effect is a factor in all types of medicine,” Dr. Zeng noted. In western medicine, for example, blind tests may reveal placebo effects that are similar to responses to trial drugs, she explained. In any case, it is clear that the patients who received acupuncture treatment experienced fewer headaches. The possibility that placebo effect plays a role in acupuncture does not detract from its efficacy.

Acupuncture And Ivf – The Secret Of Success

Hi folks its chiropractic oxnard style here and here is another great article on how acupuncture can influence fertilization.

A number of reasons have been shown how acupuncture influences the results of in-vitro fertilization or IVF. Acupuncture has been shown to positively affect the levels of ovarian and pituitary hormones while electro-acupuncture treatment have shown to result in better and improved flow of blood in the uterine arteries of women who are infertile.

In conjunction with modern IVF therapy acupuncture, as a complementary therapy, is becoming more and more common. Studies has shown that acupuncture helps patients’ better respond to medication as well as improving pregnancy rates and resulting in healthier eggs. Many women who have had problems with high FSH levels or who have had a miscarriage are being advised that acupuncture is the solution to their problems.

Higher Rates of Pregnancy
Couples having difficulties in conceiving through traditional methods often turn to other techniques to assist them in having a child and one of the most used reproduction therapies currently being used is in-vitro fertilization. IVF is the process harvesting a woman’s eggs and then fertilizing them with sperm via a laboratory.

Some studies have shown that pregnancy rates increase by as much as 40 percent for women undergoing acupuncture treatment in addition to IVF. Acupuncture makes a woman’s uterus more receptive to implantation which is one of the major reasons attributed to these higher rates of success.

On a side note, for those women who do decide to combine acupuncture with their IVF it appears that’s it’s best to undergo their acupuncture treatment on the afternoon before the transfer of their embryos, as well as on the afternoon or day after the transfer.

Many women find IVF to be a stressful and anxiety ridden experience. These factors often result in undermining the success of IVF. However, on a positive note, a 2002 German study indicated that 34 out of 80 women who were undergoing IVF and who were also receiving acupuncture got pregnant – a success rate of 42.5 percent. To the uninformed this may not sound all that great but when compared to women undergoing IVF as a stand-alone treatment (no acupuncture) the pregnancy rate for those using acupuncture was significantly higher.

Acupuncture Charts – A Closer Look At The 14 Meridians

Standard acupuncture charts can be purchased that aid in identifying the name and locations of the meridian and acupoints on the front and back of the human body. An acupuncture chart will accurately show the location of the14 primary meridians as well as some of the extra points. Most acupuncture charts also show the names and locations of meridian and acupoints on lateral sides of the human body. Normally, they also have the international standard nomenclature and alphanumeric codes.

Some acupuncture charts come in sets that may be further divided into smaller sets that show the acupoints on the whole body surface (i.e. the back, neck, front, back and lateral sides of the human body, as well as the trunk of the body and other parts of the anatomy contained in different layers). There are also charts that show the upper limbs. Other acupuncture charts will show the entire human anatomy while others simply show regions of the human anatomy.

The acupuncture chart first became prevalent during the Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644) when the Chinese first printed vernacular literature in great numbers. However, over the ensuing hundreds of years they have become increasingly well known. Acupuncture charts appeared in manuals dealing with Chinese medicine and the purpose was both to instruct and identify the proper location of the acupoints. In addition to the reasons just given acupuncture charts were maintained for Chinese medicine which included reflexology, moxibution, massage and a number of other specialties.

Illustrations Aid in Understanding

Acupuncture charts don’t explain how to needle the body but rather are diagrams that show the path of channels or meridian conduits as well as the location of acupuncture points. Because there are a great deal of acupuncture points, the acupuncture charts can only display a fraction of the channels and acupuncture points which are being discussed in the text of the chart. As a result, many acupuncture charts correspond with the specific body part, body function or disorder that needs to be treated.

A few common acupuncture charts are for the ear, foot, head and stomach. Other charts also describe healing methods of hot and cold diseases as well as other ailments.

The bottom line with acupuncture charts is that their primary function is to serve as a visual enhancement to the text and they are not intended to stand alone.
